Prince William welcomed by Earthshot Prize finalists Low Carbon Materials to spotlight sustainable construction innovations

HRH The Prince of Wales toured the Durham facilities of Earthshot Prize Finalists Low Carbon Materials.

[COUNTY DURHAM - UK - APRIL 30] Prince William visited Low Carbon Materials (LCM) at their Jade Business Park headquarters to see first-hand their work as the net zero innovation partner to the construction industry.

As the Founder and President of the Earthshot Prize, Prince William was first introduced to LCM when they became Finalists of the awards in 2022.

Dr Natasha Boulding, Co-founder and CEO, led the tour and demonstrated the company’s flagship product, OSTO®, a gravel-like material to decarbonise concrete. They also got hands-on with LCM’s newest innovation, ACLA®, a carbon-negative material that lowers the carbon footprint of asphalt in roads.

Natasha and the Prince of Wales discussed LCM’s most recent announcement: the use of ACLA® in a road resurfacing project by Durham County Council and Rainton Construction to significantly reduce the project’s carbon emissions.

A range of industry leaders and LCM’s partners joined the event.

Roundtable discussions took place between Prince William and some of the guests on decarbonising the construction sector and the need for innovative companies like Low Carbon Materials.

The visit signals significant recognition of Low Carbon Materials’ work to help fix our climate and make net zero construction a reality.

Discussing the event, Natasha stated, “Everyone at Low Carbon Materials is immensely proud of receiving such distinguished guests and having the opportunity to showcase our innovative solutions for decarbonising the built environment.”
