Prince William, Natasha Boulding and the other Earthshot Prize finalists 2022.
  • As a 2022 Finalist, Low Carbon Materials featured prominently in this year’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.

  • Low Carbon Materials' CEO and Co-founder Dr Natasha Boulding attended and spoke at the event in New York.

  • Accelerating investment and support for climate tech solutions is vital to repairing our planet.

In 2022, Low Carbon Materials was announced as an Earthshot Prize finalist in the ‘Fix our Climate‘ category for our science-based, low-carbon building material OSTO®.

As finalists, Low Carbon Materials were invited back to attend this year's Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit held in New York on the 19th of September.

Bloomberg Philanthropies and The Earthshot Prize hosted the summit with the aim of accelerating investment into cutting-edge solutions that are helping to protect our planet.

Our CEO and Co-founder Natasha Boulding attended and spoke at the summit, featuring prominently throughout the day with other finalists from around the world.

What happened during the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit?

Natasha was an invited speaker during the day, appearing on the panel of the Catalysing Innovation Breakout Session.

Natasha spoke on stage, discussing the story of Low Carbon Materials and the importance of collaborative efforts for accelerating the adoption of innovative solutions that address climate change.

Also speaking on the panel were Jennifer Homgren, CEO, LanzaTech, as well as Brandon Ng, Co-Founder & CEO of Ampd Energy

The Innovation Summit also placed a spotlight on last year's five recipients of the Earthshot Prize, who discussed their solutions and shared their stories with notable global figures such as Bill Gates, Nomzamo Mbatha and Jacinda Ardern.

However, the main news from the event was the announcement by HRH The Prince of Wales (Prince William) of the fifteen Finalists that are in contention to win the 2023 Earthshot Prize.

There were also speeches from Michael R. Bloomberg and Prince William encouraging everyone to act decisively and to collaborate effectively to push forward the global climate agenda.

What else did Natasha do during her time in New York?

The day before the main event, Natasha took part in an Ideas Camp at Bloomberg Headquarters with the 2022 Finalists and Winners.

The camp included sessions on pitching and media best practices with advice from global business, technology, environmental and government leaders on the methods for further accelerating the solutions.

The event also provided an opportunity for Natasha to reunite with the 2022 Earthshot Prize Finalists whom she last saw at The Earthshot Prize Fellowship Retreat that took place in January this year.

How important is scaling innovation for protecting and restoring our planet?

The Earthshot Prize proves that the solutions exist to help repair our planet - all that is required is for them to be invested in and scaled up.

By shining a spotlight on such innovative solutions from around the world, The Earthshot Prize is helping to revive optimism and encourage urgent action.

Reflecting on her time at the summit, Natasha stated, “There is no other option but to invest in the scaling of green tech - this makes sense for the planet but also provides an incredible economic opportunity that the UK must realise.”
